Baseball, Soda Cans, & Onesies

… From the desk of Sylvia Aimerito, AGM Exec. Dir.

My neighbor’s son has been playing baseball since he could hold a bat.  Jacob loves the game and is quite good at it!  My company, AudioGirl Productions, has been sponsoring his team(s) ever since I can remember.  I’ve been to a couple games; Lori, my sister and biz partner, has sung the National Anthem to kick off their season, and she’s even been a game announcer. Vin Scully better watch out!

Anyway, the coolest thing happened last month.  Jacob called to say he’d left something on the front porch to thank AudioGirl Productions for sponsoring his little league team.  Jacob does this every season – usually it’s some coffee, or a team t-shirt. Very thoughtful.  This year, it was extra thoughtful.

You see, Jacob had decided to collect discarded soda cans at the park where his team plays, to raise money for AudioGirl Ministries.  His team mates saw what he was doing and decided to join in.  All season they collected cans, recycled them, and saved the money.  Then they went to a Kidz Head 2 Toe, a local consignment store, and spent all of the money they earned from collecting cans on onesies.  Onesies! How cute and adorable is that??!!!

The owner of Kidz Head to Toe asked Jacob why he was buying so many onesies. “To give back,”  he told her, and went on to tell her the story I just shared with you.

The owner was impressed with Jacob’s charitable heart and gave him a $20 credit towards his next purchase. He looked at his mom and said, “With the $20.00 credit I’ll be collecting cans again!”.

Jacob ended up making the All Star Team this summer, and as promised, started collecting cans with his new team mates. He says, “as long as I play baseball, I’ll be collecting cans and buying clothes for babies, in return for all the AudioGirls have done for Erik (Jacob’s big brother) and me.”

By the way, our second bag of onesies was left on the front porch Friday, Aug. 1!  The note read, “With love from Jacob and the All Star Team.”

  1. What a heart-warming story. And what a GREAT kid! The parents must be really proud that they raised such a compassionate little guy. In this day and age when narcissism rules, it’s INSPIRING to read about a kid that’s giving back and helping others – especially the most helpless and needy. Bravo Jacob! Bravo mom & dad! Bravo team!Keep up the great work!

  2. Look at all those darling Onesies!! Love this family, what a wonderful son. This post just made my day!
